Artist Statement

My sustained investigation revolves around the idea of visual music. Music is an art, but it can only be heard. I attempted to create music that the audience can hear with bold colors, photographs, and digital drawings. I played around with album art, music videos, and synthesia (a union of the senses). All of these ideas focus on the meaning and feeling of a song or an album. My art conveys the same ideas as album art, music videos, and synthesia. Through my pieces, I strove to combine elements of music and how it makes people feel. All of my pieces are named after a song that I feel correlates and describes the piece I created. I explored photography, collages, and digital illustration in all of my works. I applied different layering techniques, and used different textures of printing paper, to investigate how colors and sound are related. The different colors elicit a feeling that only music can describe and the textures add new layers to the type of music the piece is associated with. By combining all of these elements I seek to create visual music.
